Over the past few weeks, MCCU is seeing an increase in fraudulent card activity originating at Safeway stores. These activities are appearing outside the member’s home zip code, for example, a member lives in 80112, and their card is used in 80124. Due to this activity, we are increasing our risk monitoring software to protect member accounts and the credit union.
The rules for Safeway activity is when a transaction is attempted outside of your home zip code and is over $150, in conjunction with normal monitoring criteria, will be declined in the coming weeks. The software is intuitive and tracks your normal spending patterns, so if you live in Highlands Ranch, but shop in Centennial your transactions will not be declined, but if you have never been to Fort Collins and a $500 Safeway transaction attempts to obtain authorization, it will be declined. If you have any questions please contact the Member Service Department at extensions 114 and 127 or Staci at extension 113 at 303-770-4468.
