Controlling VISA ®Fraud

ATTENTION VISA Debit and Credit Card Holders
MCCU Debit and Credit Cards include various methods of fraud protection.
#1: There is a maximum daily limit allowed of $3,000. This limit resets every 24-hours. If you need to make a purchase for above that amount, please contact Extension 113 to have the limit temporarily increased.

#2: There is a maximum daily limit of $500 allowed for ATM withdrawals. This limit resets every 24-hours.

#3: Card Watch: watches your card transactions to determine if there may be possible fraud. All transactions are tracked and compared to your specific typical transaction activity. If an abnormal transaction is made with your card, you may receive an email, text or phone call from our fraud management company on behalf of the credit union. The contact will be made to confirm the transaction suspected. If we are unable to contact you to confirm the transaction, your card may be blocked to prevent any additional possible fraud.

Changes to Your VISA Credit Card

Your Metrum Community Credit Union VISA credit card account has seen some big changes over the last several months. We would like to provide a brief overview of the changes made, and share with you some additional enhancements that you can look forward to later this year.

What’s Changed:

The Credit Card Payment Due Date is now the 28th of the month. A 3-day grace period is still offered to you to make your payment before a late fee is assessed to your account.

Credit Card Statements are now generated on the last day of the month and for those of you that receive your statement by mail, the Credit Card Statement is now included in the same mailing envelope as your regular account statement. With the statement date change and the payment due date change,you now have a28-day grace period to pay your statement balance to avoid a finance charge is assessed. Most credit card providers offer only 25-days.
Electronic Statements will typically be available by the 2nd day of the new month. When your e-statement is ready to be viewed online, an email notification will be delivered to you.

Credit Card balance updates are now completed daily. The schedule of when balances are updated are as follows: Monday-Friday at 10:00 am (MT) and Saturday at 2:00 pm (MT). *These are approximate times.

Any cash advance made on the credit card account will follow the account fee schedule. A fee schedule was provided to you in April of 2012, or when you signed the VISA agreement if it was after April 2012. Alternative solutions, such as an Overdraft Line-of-Credit, may be available to you if you frequently make cash advances online. Please contact the Loan Department for assistance.

What’s Coming:

We are excited for the road ahead as we have many opportunities to provide members access to new and improved financial services. Below are a couple of strategies that your credit union team is learning about and plan to implement in the near future.

Credit Card balance updates will be made 24-hours a day/7-days a week,eliminating the daily single balance updates. This means that your balance will be updated as soon as your payments or transactions post!

Europay, MasterCard, Visa a.k.a. EMV Chip Cards

You may have heard about Chip Cards through the news, shopping at a local convenience store, or you may already have one in your wallet. In essence, the chip card replaces the functionality of the magstripe on the back of your card with a computer chip making it nearly impossible, and expensive to counterfeit. The EMV chip card is a worldwide standard, with the U.S. just starting to take action. The rollout, especially on the merchant side, is expected to take many years as special equipment is needed to read the chip on the card versus reading the magstripe. Currently, as financial's are issuing EMV chip cards, the plastic includes both the chip and the magstripe to allow the card to be used in both manners.

In 2016, Metrum Credit Union will be setting its strategy for the implementation the EMV Chip Cards on both credit and debit cards. As we determine the rollout strategy for the new plastics, we will notify members of the changes and what to expect.
